Science in Art: Brendan Monroe
Brendan Monroe is a long time favourite artist of mine, and it's likely that some of you will recognize his artwork from visiting my home. While his earlier works (which I'm frequently sore I didn't acquire more of when I had the chance) seem to deal with more interpersonal themes, his recent work -- with names like "Increase of Ciculation", "Greater Mitosis" and "Building Blocks" (a peice reminiscient of epithelial tissue) -- manifest the uniquely modern experience of living with microscopic knowledge of one's own biology.

Wow, I can see why you might be interested in embroidered neurons! I might be able to get some new ideas from your blog! Already, I'm thinking ... hmmmm ... embroidered caffeine molecule?
That would be so awesome! I added your blog to my RSS feeds, so I'll definitely be keeping an eye on what you're up to.
Personally, I'd love to see some of the following embroidered:
- Purkinje Neurons
- a capsaicin mollecule (this is the molecule that makes chili peppers hot)
- a macrophage (these white blood cells wander around your body and catch baddies like infectious bacteria, suck them inside their cell body and destroy them - woo!)
About ideas, have you seen Made with Molecules jewelry? I love the concept here, but the execution isn't to my taste. I bet a lot of these molecules would be easy to embroider though, and make for very cool shwag.
First, if I was the girl's necklace-wearing type, I'd be all over the Made With Molecules products.
Second, this Brendan Monroe guy is amazing. His is exactly the sort of work I'd like to cover my walls.
